Movie vs. Play (Ophelia and Hamlet edition)

Ophelia is such a wonderful movie. It focuses on Ophelia's life and it's all from her point of view. The actress, Daisy Ridley, was a perfect choice for this role because she portrays the character extremely well and brings together everything the play could have been, had it involved Ophelia more. Best part is that Daisy Ridley played Rey, in Star Wars, who was also independent and very underrated for most of her life. It introduces Ophelia as an intelligent woman, full of courage and confidence. Rather than tiptoeing around the idea of "to be or not to be," Ophelia finds herself falling head-first in everything she does, as she is full of life and love. This movie is very different than the play, especially in its portrayal of the characters. The most notable, obviously, are Ophelia and Hamlet. Neither are seen as mad, but instead as direct and assertive. They are shown in a relationship during the movie, but we are not really given that during the play. The story between the lives of these two, are told through vibrant settings, colors, and even clothes. It does such a service to the way the writers chose to tell the story of Ophelia, especially because they really wanted to capture the independence and personality that Ophelia carried. Whereas, the play never really gave an idea of Ophelia's personality, and instead gave the intention of Ophelia being mad, just like Hamlet. I don't want to go into too much detail about the movie in case anyone wishes to watch it, but it honestly is such a beautiful movie. Here's one of my favorite clips!
